The Company

Bomford Turner Ltd a member of the Alamo Europe group is an OEM for various types of agricultural and vegetation control machinery. The machines are generally kinematic / mechanical devices with hydraulic and electronic sub systems mounted on agricultural prime movers. The machinery is required to operate safely in urban and agricultural environments around the world, with minimum maintenance and environmental impact.

The Role

Bomford Turner Ltd is seeking to augment its current established product design team.
The job role for this vacancy is as follows:

Job Purpose Summary

To provide and support cost effective and fit for purpose product designs which meet customer needs and fit within the Bomford Turner Ltd marketing strategy.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities;

  • Responsible for fit-for-purpose concept, prototype and production design activities.
  • Accountable for BoM maintenance.
  • Accountable for operator instruction manual and parts book content.
  • Accountable for following departmental procedures and data storage requirements.
  • Responsible for justifying the correct design balance between acceptable functionality, quality and minimum cost.
  • Responsible for detailed design technical specifications arising from the project brief.
  • Responsible for design of whole products, sub systems and components.
  • Responsible for prime mover interface component design.
  • Responsible for design specification and maintenance of proprietary and non-proprietary purchased parts.
  • Responsible for supplier liaison of development purchased parts, whether proprietary or non-proprietary.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with latest product legislative requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining engineering status of current products.
  • Responsible for product development activities (including manual involvement when necessary).

The ideal candidate should have experience of and be capable of;

  • CAD design proficiency, (previous Solid works operational experience will be an advantage)
  • Structural and mechanical design hand calculations (Knowledge and previous use of a Finite element analysis package will be an advantage)
  • Appropriate Strength of materials assessment.
  • Hydraulic control component and system design
  • Kinematics design
  • Basic electronic circuit design
  • Design for manufacture and assembly
  • Tolerance analysis.
  • Microsoft office applications – particularly Excel and Word.

Bomford Turner Ltd is seeking to recruit experienced welders to add to the production team.
Details are as follows:

Job description

  • Fabricates components by analysing requirements; welding parts
  • Develops welding projects by analysing work orders, prints and completed assembly;
    calculating requirements, studying metals, determining appropriate welding techniques
  • Collects equipment and materials by studying specifications and component requirements;
    order supplies and gases
  • Verifies welding results by inspecting and testing welds
  • Documents actions by completing records
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns;
    maintaining suppliers; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs as necessary
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Complies with all Company and Health & Safety procedures


  • Demonstrable experience of welding in a similar heavy manufacturing environment
  • Coded welder or similar, preferable but not essential
  • NVQ level education or similar, preferable but not essential
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Problem solving ability
  • Team player as well as ability to work independently
  • Good communications skills
